1)Walking to 'Gyu Danda' point of view (4800m or up to 5270m) over Upper-Mustang, Muktinath valley and Kaligandaki.

Itineraire :
If you come from Jomosom or Thorong pass (round Annapurna), this summit is easily accessible on a day. It is the best place to go to crown your trek and /or acclimatize.
It offers a splendid view, 360 degrees, on Upper-Mustang, Tibet, Muktinath valley, and Khali Gandaki, Dhaulagiri, Tukche peak, the Annapurnas, the Tilicho Peak, Nilgiris, the Thorong pass, Thorong peak and KatungKang, Yakawakang, Muktinath Himal ...
Walking: From 4h to 5h ascent (1600m) and 2h to 3h descent (1600m) on good path, never steepy. The first view point is at 4800m approx.
Horsing : if you do not want to walk, you can horse until 4800m, and walk up the last 400 meters. Count 3000Rs for a horse and horseman, add additional 2700Rs per horse.
Tips: There may be a lot of wind at the top, even if weather is sunny and sky blue. Take warm clothes, hat and windproof jacket, water and food (lunch packet available at the lodge). This is certainly vital if you ride a horse (you sit without moving too much ...).
Note: The only other best view will be above the Tawa Pass at 5750m and then at 6110m on a snowy ridge of Purkun Himal massif behind the YakawaKang. These are two reachable destinations within 3 to 4 days to / from Ranipauwa. Camping and mountain gears needed. Guide, porters services can be rented in Ranipauwa. Ask at the lodge.

Itinerary :
From Ranipauwa, take the direction of Chhyongur, Jhong (blue/white marking). Once you have passed the Jhong suspension bridge, take to the North the path moving up to the Gyu La pass (Upper-Mustang). Middle way from the pass you will reach a shorten with some flags. 100m meter after, there is a cross with a footpath coming (South-West -> North-East) from Jhong at 3920m. Take it up on the North-East and follow it til 4800m. From there you will have to move on a large ridge til 5130m (shorten and prayer flags) or up to the top at 5270m.

A walking day around the villages of Muktinath's valley.
Ranipauwa – Ani Gumba - Purang - Jharkot - Jhong Bridge - water channel below Jharkot – Tongo -Putak Bridge – Putak – Jhong – Chhyongur – Ranipauwa (Blue/White marking):

An alternative path through the fields, hills, along the local water paths, on the rocky plateau of the Jhong Khola, through and around the villages of the valley of Muktinath.
A small pleasure to ride for the variety of landscapes and seasons. It avoids the track-Ranipauwa Jomosom and borrows some of Jhong-Kagbeni trail (which is a beautiful route to the villages to Kagbeni crossed and the views of the chain of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri on. It can be shortened to Jhong descend towards the bridge over the Jhong Khola and then returning to Ranipauwa (Muktinath)
About 14 Kilometers,700m down,700m up; 5h about.)

T
wo loops to go around the various villages of the valley.

3)7 Km - BOUCLE 1 (balisage Blanc/Bleu), LOOP 1 (Blue/White marking) Ranipauwa, Purang, Jhong bridge, Jhong, Chhyongur, Ranipauwa

From Ranipauwa, move in direction of Muktinath temple, at the Portal of the village, turn left onto the trail to join Chhyongur and Jhong. After the hydro-power station go down in direction of the Ani Gumpa. There, on the jeep road you will found the blue/white marking in direction of Purang and Jharkot. Follow it until below Jharkot after a gate in a stones' wall. Then take down on the right the direction of Jhong. You will rich and cross a metallic bridge on the Jhong Khola, then move up on the right to the Jhong Village.
You can visit The village Gumpa. There is also a lodge nearby on the top of the hill where you can have a break.
To come back to Ranipauwa, 2 itineraries :
  1. Follow up (Est) the jeep road, in direction of Muktinath, til the suspension bridge. Pass it, move up the steepy footpath on the right to Chhyongur. Cross the village (following the Red/White marking) and continue the jeep road til a footpath bringing you back between he two Gompas by the hydro-power station to Ranipauwa.
  1. A shortcut through the fields of Jhong and Purang passing by 2 small wood timbers over the rivers.
From the main jeep road nearby the Mani wall, take the Est way on right side. It will lead you, through the fields til the cliff over the Jhong Khola. Follow the narrow steepy path descending to the rivers crossing. Pass the 2 'bridges' and move up your way (South) in the fields til Purang and from there by the Blue/White marked path to Ranipauwa. This path will be Blue/White marked in March 2013 if I have the paints.

4)14 Km - BOUCLE 2 (balisage Blanc/Bleu) - LOOP 2 (Blue/White marking) Ranipauwa, Purang, Jharkot, Tongo, Putak bridge, Putak, Jhong, Chhyongur, Ranipauwa or Purang, Ranipauwa

5)Adventurous way to the Ruins of the Old village of Kagbeni through the bed of the Jhong Khola and its canyons.

6) 5H to 6h, Adventurous way to Kagbeni by the Ruins of the Old village of Kagbeni through the bed of the Jhong Khola and its canyons.
